# TMG7800 Controller Replacement

This procedure is used to replace a faulty controller with a new controller or add a new controller to existing single controller system.

### Prerequisite

Prior to replacing faulty controller or add new controller to the system, you must have the following:

* You must have ordered and obtained new server controller. You can verify the server specifications with the TelcoBridges support group.
* You must follow the [TMG7800 Installation](/products/tmedia/installation/baremetal-installation.md) instructions
* If the unit is replacing a primary unit (as opposed to a secondary unit) these instructions must be followed: [Setting Host Role to Primary](/configuration/web-portal-3-3/system/host-role/host-1plus1-primary.md).

#### Backup your system configuration

Before Proceeding with the procedure, it is a must to backup your configuration from other controller which is running normally. Please follow this link: [Backup procedure](/operations-and-support/troubleshooting/software/troubleshooting-toolpack.md#system-configuration-backup)\
Note: The database backup should be done and stored at a safe place regularly

#### Upload and Recover your backup system configuration

After backup the configuration from other controller, upload the configuration to the new controller by following this link: [Upload Configuration](/configuration/web-portal-3-3/system/database-backup/uploading-a-database-backup.md) and recover the configuration

### TMG7800 Controller Replacement/Adding Procedure

### Removing the Defective/Controller

This procedure is required for replacing existing faulty/controller

* Shutdown the faulty/TMG7800 controller
* Disconnect the faulty/TMG7800 controller from existing network where the other controller is residing
* Remove the faulty/TMG7800 controller from the equipment rack

### Installing the Replacement/Additional Controller

* Rack-mount the Replacement/Additional Controller
* For minimizing system downtime, connect the new controller to a new network different from existing running controller's network to avoid conflict when this new controller is started up
* Connect the new controller to the new Management network
* Connect the new controller to the new Control network in preparation for the existing controller to join back

### Starting Up the new TMG7800 Controller

* Power up the new TMG7800 controller if not done so

### Adding the additional new adapter to the replacement/additional controller

This procedure is required only if any new adapter unit will be installed during this controller replacement/adding process

* Upload the license of the new adaptor unit in the system. See [Uploading a license](/other-pages/operations/telcobridges-license-server.md#upload-a-license-on-the-system).
* Follow [Adding Telecom Hardware](/configuration/web-portal-3-3/hardware/new-hardware/adding-an-adapter.md) to add additonal adapter hardware unit

### Moving and connecting physically the existing adapter(s) to the new network

This procedure is required when the new controller had been installed in the new network different from existing running controller's network

### Reset the host role of existing controller

* Follow [Reset Host Role](/configuration/web-portal-3-3/system/host-role/reset-hostrole.md) to reset the existing Controller to Secondary Host
* Follow [TMG7800 Installation guide](/products/tmedia/installation/product-installation.md#tmg7800) to reconnect both Primary and Secondary Controllers for Control, Management, and Adapters Networks.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://tmediadocs.telcobridges.com/products/tmedia/maintenance/7800-series-maintenance-guide/tmg7800-controller-replacement.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
