# Host-control

#### Host control

Starting with Toolpack 2.5 a series of task are available to run from the host control panel (servers on which Toolpack is installed). The host control panel is accessed from the host status page. Its goal is to provide a common way to run Toolpack specific tasks, such as:

* Upload a license
* Upload a Toolpack package
* Upgrade the host's packages (tblinux only)
* Shutdown a host
* Check control action status

**Upload a license**

Although it is still possible to manually copy the license to the appropriate folder on the host, this Upload action will take care of that task. It enables you to choose the license file to upload, and then install the license. Once this action is completed successfully, the OAM application loads the license and installs it on the appropriate TMedia unit. This will require a reboot of that unit.

* [Add and change licenses](/operations-and-support/upgrades/license-upgrades/add-change-licenses.md)

**Upload a Toolpack package**

This task uploads and installs the Toolpack installer on the specified host. You must still create a package and activate it so that the upgrade is applied at a suitable time. The only limitation is that this can only be used for minor upgrades, because the setup parameters will be lost for major upgrades.

*Warning* [*SELinux*](/other-pages/operations/selinux.md) ***must** be disabled (permissive or enforce SELinux will hinder package installation). Click* [*here*](/other-pages/operations/selinux-management.md) *to disable SELinux.*

**Upgrade the host's packages**

This task updates all packages of the tblinux distribution to the latest stable version (assuming that the TMG has access to the web). This upgrade is recommended so that you always have the latest fixes. (This may take a while if the tblinux was not recently updated.)

**Shutdown a host**

This task will either reboot or shutdown a host depending on user input. This is especially important for the TMG, becauase it is important to shut it down properly to avoid corruption on the flash-based drive.

**Check control action status**

The status of each of the above actions can be viewed with two fields in the host control panel.

* The *current action* log is the log of the action that is currently executing. This means only one action per host will be allowed at one time, however, you can queue them.
* The *last action* log is the log of the last action that was completed (either successfully or with an error). The status can be refreshed buy pressing the 'now' button at the top of the page.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://tmediadocs.telcobridges.com/other-pages/operations/host-control.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
